What are Microgreens?
Microgreens are vegetable greens that are harvested right after they develop their seed leaves(basically their first set of two leaves). They are incredibly packed with flavor and add a wonderful splash of color to so many different dishes! Even though they are little, they pack a major nutritional kick. Microgreens often times have much higher nutrient levels than most mature vegetable greens. So adding them to your diet will greatly increase the levels of nutrients you are putting in your body!
How do I use them?
This is a great question! We get asked this by anyone who has never been introduced to Microgreens. Lets go over the basics of how they can be used:
They go great on breakfast dishes like eggs, potatoes, breakfast burritos, scrambles and avocado toast.
They go great in smoothies! Although we would recommend sticking to broccoli, kale, peas and sunflowers. The Hot and Spicy Mix, Arugula and radishes tend to be to savory and spicy for smoothies. Trust us, making a smoothie with arugula instead of kale and broccoli makes for an interesting, spicy and unexpected surprise! And not in a good way!
They go great on so many different lunch and dinner options. The possibilities are limitless. We’ve tried them on pizza, dumplings, tacos, burritos, fish, hamburgers, hotdogs and so many others.
Because of their fragile nature, we recommend using them as a topping. Cooking them tends to do too much damage before consumption.
Keep them at cool temperatures at all times. As soon as you come into possession of the microgreens, put them into the refrigerator to preserve the highest levels of nutrients. As you use them on or in your dishes, make sure to put them back into the fridge as quickly as possible! We want y’all to be as healthy as possible!
How long do they last?
They last from 1-2 weeks in your refrigerator when stored correctly. The best way to store them is to make sure that they don’t get crushed or squished.
Don’t grab them with wet fingers. Introducing moisture to the container speeds up the process of them going bad.
How can I get them on a regular basis?
We can set you up with a subscription for your greens so you can get them every week, every other week and so on. Whatever you need, we can customize an arrangement specifically for you! We want to see you get as healthy as possible!
How can I learn to grow my own Microgreens?
We are in the process of setting up a class to help teach you how to grow your own microgreens at home! The process is a great way to introduce yourself to creating and growing your own food. Way less space, time, water and energy than traditional gardening practices. Vertical farming is the way of the future!
